Radical Chinese and the iPod Touch
Keri-Lee Beasley of the Tip of The Iceberg blog has a post about using the iPod Touch in a Chinese class.
The Post, titled Radical Chinese, reports about young students using the iPod Touch in a Chinese class. Using the writing pad on the application students scribe Chinese characters. If the students write the character correctly the app will bring up the character’s definition. The application forces the students to be very careful when writing their Chinese characters because if they are not careful the definition will not show up. Below is what the teacher had to say about the experience she had using the iPod Touch with the Chinese Language application:
Using the iPod Touches was particularly motivating for the students – they were absolutely determined to find out the meanings, they were eager to write the characters correctly so the dictionary would be able to find the definitions, and they were great at helping each other and making suggestions for ways of writing the characters.
